Here's the weekly scoop on what is happening here at Woodland Shores Baptist Church for the week of November 27-December 3 and beyond. There's always a lot happening here so don't forget to check back on our webpage often!
The CONGREGATIONAL BUSINESS MEETING is this Sunday at 11:00 am in the sanctuary.
We will be voting to affirm new members of the Board of Deacons and the Nominating Committee, approve the 2018 Ministry Operating Budget, and vote on Audra Oakley as Worship Director.
Just a note on how the Nominating Committee nominates the potential candidates for the standing boards (in this case Deacons and 2018 Nominating Committee). The Nominating Committee is comprised of the Senior Pastor, The Deacon Board Chairman, and three congregation approved lay members.
Nominating Committee looks for Deacons who fit these qualifications:
- They must be members in good standing.
- They must fit the descriptions of Deacons laid out in 1 Timothy and Titus.
- They must be willing and able to fill the role. (Signified by a signed covenant)
Nominating Committee then looks for candidates for the Nominating Committee of the next year who are also members in good standing and who are willing and able to fill the role.
This year's Nominating Committee took this job very seriously and prayed hard about who God desires to be in these positions. We believe that the candidates that are on this year's ballot are godly people who love their Woodland Shores church family and will faithfully work hard to see God glorified here. Please keep all of the church leadership in prayer through this process.
Draw Together December is an initiative intending to do two things. First, draw regular attenders closer by... well... sitting closer together and by changing up where we sit so that we can get to know others in our congregation better. Second, even though we are one of the friendliest churches in the area, we want to make sure that any visitor that walks through our doors doesn't feel awkward when they enter the sanctuary. That they can find a seat towards the back or side aisles easily. Right now, many of us like to sit towards the back which isn't inherently a bad thing, but imagine you are that friend, co-worker or family member that you've been praying would come to church and you only see seating available towards the front. How comfortable would you be, being the new person in a strange new place, sitting up front and center? Probably not very comfortable, right? Now you see why we are doing this! As we enter the holiday season when people are either visiting church for the first time, or the first time in a long time, this is very important for us to keep in mind. Also, don't forget to keep that loving, welcoming attitude we are famous for. It's going to be a great Christmas and New Year season.
